Medallion coin minted under Commodus (AD 177–192) at Thyatira. Obv.: AV K M AVRH KOMODOC. It depicts the bust of magistrate T. Aurelius Barbarus laureate, draped, and cuirassed. Rev.: EPI CTPA TIT-OV AVP-HLIOV BAPBAPO. Hephaestus seated on wreathed cippus, putting finishing touches, with a hammer, on a Corinthian helmet set on a low column, while Athena, standing left, holding a spear and shield, touches the top of the column; (BMC 82). Ramsay describes it as “The Thyatiran bronze-smith.” Letters, 325.

Coin from Thyatira. Obv.: CAESAR AVGVSTVS, laureate head of Augustus Denarius. (r. ca. 19–18 BC). Rev.: DIVVS IVLIV[S], (divus or deified Julius). Comet (44 BC) of eight rays representing the eight days it was visible with the tail pointing upward that was interpreted as the divine authentication of Caesar’s deity. (RIC 1.37a = BMC 323)
